The Wexford Photographic Group is proud to announce that Founder Member Finbarr Healy was declared overall winner of this year’s photo competition, held during the Punchestown Races Festival.

The competition was sponsored by Bermingham Cameras and invited photography students, enthusiasts and club members ‘to attempt to capture Punchestown in a photo where the subject is not necessarily the horse but more about the people, place and occasion”. To take first place, Finbarr beat off stiff competition from over fifty photographers who took part throughout the event. His prize was a top-of-the-range Canon EOS R7 mirrorless camera worth over €2,000.

The Wexford Photographic Group was recently formed by a number of amateur enthusiasts based in and around the county. All of the current members have several years experience behind them and all are keen to develop their skills in a collaborative and non-competitive environment.

The Group is currently avoiding any hierachical structure and has no formal committee, preferring instead to plan and make decisions about activities through discussion and consensus.

An initial project is already in the making, which aims to create a portfolio of images illustrating all aspects of Wexford life. This will include Street Photography, Landscapes, Seascapes, Architecture, Faces and Key Events. When complete, the portfolio can form the basis of an exhibition and on-line gallery.
