Philip Devereux

About: My journey into photography began, like so many other enthusiasts, when my father introduced me to his ancient ‘Box Brownie’ camera. I was captivated by his ‘snap shots’ of Bedouin men, women and locations captured during his time in North Africa in the mid 1940’s.
Later, when in my late teens, I purchased my first camera (a 2nd hand Yashica FX2000) and, as the story often goes, ‘I never looked back’. I was primarily interested in land and seascapes, which in turn led to flora and fauna photography and eventually into the domain of sports photography.  

Interests: My current interests in photography include all of the above but with the inclusion of portrait and studio photography. I was honoured to be a member of both Palmerstown and the New Generation camera clubs for quite a number of years. Enjoying the creativity and enthusiasm of both club’s members, I took to the genre like the proverbial ‘duck to water’. I hold a licentiateship from the Irish Photographic Federation.
Finally, I’m an ‘odd sort’ in that I shoot with a wide range of cameras ranging from brands such as, Leica, Nikon, Canon and my old friend Yashica. (Aren’t old friends best?)

What Philip has to say: As an adult I happily recorded the growth of my three children as they progressed through their years from babyhood to adulthood and everything in between. (And no, I won’t become their wedding photographer – they can pay for that themselves!)
Over the years I have documented very many school and college events during my time in teaching. Oh, I failed to mention my background is in engineering having worked in Ireland and in the Netherlands before returning to the University of Limerick (UL) to take a primary degree and later a M.Ed. in education.
